Sprouting Seeds

One of the most affordable ways to feed your family an easy snack, or top on salads, soups, pretty much any dish, is to SPROUT!

BENEFITS OF SPROUTING:

*An excellent source of natural fiber

*Lowers absorption of glucose which can be beneficial for those struggling with high cholesterol and/or blood sugar

*Sprouting raw beans and grains rather than cooking them, reduces the amount of phytic acid in the legume or grain, which can hinder the absorption of certain minerals and vitamins, a reason that some people avoid legumes and grains all together

*Sprouting increases the value of NATURAL Folate, Potassium, Vitamin C, B Vitamins, Niacin and Riboflavin vs just consuming the bean cooked

*Many of the ogliosaccharides produced by legumes that irritate the gut flora, are broken down by sprouting, making the legumes much easier to digest

*Sprouted beans, legumes and grains are ALKALINE. Consuming them cooked makes them ACIDIC. And being alkaline is crucial to sustaining health

*Sprouts do not contain a heavy amount of calories compared to many other sources of important vitamins and protein, but are extremely satisfying and filling

*Sprouting does not require any type of preservative but leaves you with soft and palatable fresh out of the jar nutrition vs purchasing a can of ready-to-go lentils or beans from the store that are loaded with preservatives and metals

*Sprouting is inexpensive, you do not have to set aside your budget to do this, all you need is a mason jar, daily water access and organic lentils, beans or grains (I prefer lentils). You only need 1/4 of a cup of your dried choice to make a full cup of sprouts.

*Sprouts can be used to produce many yummy recipes, including hummus, soups, salads and more!

To sprout:

Gather any RAW (processed usually won’t grow well or at all, dehydrated is fine) bean, legume, or grain

Get a jar, sprouting tub or paper towel/cheese cloth

Soak them overnight in water the first night and strain in the morning

Lightly rinse and strain

Repeat rinse and strain twice daily

Wabam! That’s really it!
